Finding spiders in your North Carolina home can be a frightening and uncomfortable experience. No one wants those critters to be crawling around their house. Some spiders, such as the Brown Recluse or Black Widow, are also known to be poisonous.

As the weather gets warmer, more spiders are going to be crawling into your house. At Stomp Pest Control we specialize in getting rid of spiders. We’re sharing some of the ways to get rid of spiders and prevent them from invading your home.

How To Get Rid of Spiders

Clear Away Spider Webs

Start by taking down spider webs that you see around the house. Spider webs can be located in corners of high ceilings and in remote areas. This is why, during cleaning, we often overlook these spots and think we’ll clean them another time. Well, now that time has arrived.

Grab a broom or duster and sweep away at the webs on house walls, floors, or windows. This is a great way to eliminate spiders and remove their egg sacs from your home.

Use a Chemical Pesticide

While clearing away spider webs is effective, if there are a lot of spiders it may be difficult to contain them. In such situations, you might have to use a chemical pesticide.

Spread the pesticide alongside baseboards, walls, and corners. Be sure to use one that is labeled specifically for indoor use otherwise it might be harmful. Read the instructions on the packaging or manual carefully before using.

Natural Spider Repellant

Using chemical pesticides can sometimes be harmful to you, your home, and the environment. That is why it is better to use a natural repellant. You can easily make a natural repellent at home using the ingredients you have.

Mix a regular table salt with water and use a spray bottle to apply to affected areas where you find more spiders. You can also add essential oils or cinnamon, citrus, or lavender to be more effective.

Glue Traps

A glue trap is a more traditional way to get rid of spiders. Place a glue trap in basements, under stairways, or in attics. Spiders will be attracted to these traps and be unable to escape. Leave them out overnight, and dispose of them outside in the morning.

How To Prevent Spiders From Invading Your North Carolina Home?

Once you’ve eliminated spiders from your house, your job is not done. If you don’t take the proper precautions, the spiders will find their way back into your home. In order to keep the spiders permanently out, take the following precautions:

  • Clean outside your home
  • Don’t leave clutters inside your home
  • Fix holes and crevices in walls
  • Make sure your window screens are closed
  • Don’t leave food out overnight
  • Store food in sealed containers
  • Leave porch lights on
  • Address leaking pipes and areas of standing water
  • Keep trash cans closed
